Whatever you're dreaming of you CAN have it but it HAS to start in your mind! _Then you breathe life into it, and bring it to life!!Hi all! Lets get started...
The first question I have to ask of you is the question any physician would ask. "Where does it hurt?
Where does your life hurt? Where are you feeling massive amounts of pain? These are the areas you need to work on. There is a saying that success leaves clues, and this is quite true. But the simple fact is; so does failure. And everything in life has value. The successes and the failures have all culminated to make you the unique person that you are today. It's one thing to tell someone "get yourself together" It's completely another to show him how! We've all been at points in our lives when we thought. "I've got to get my self together" Then the next thought was an immediate
"but how?" I want to give you an easy blueprint for getting your stuff together in life101.
First of all I want to make a note about goals. I know everyone knows how important goals are by now but do you know why you should never refer to them as goals? It's because the term goal has become too synonymous with something you'll do someday.... something you'll do before death. You can see how this would become a problem with something you're hoping to accomplish in a reasonable amount of time. Anyway, since many people will grasp things far more easily and quickly within the context of a story, I always use a lot of them.
One reason people often do not accomplish their goals is because they should not be referring to them-as goals. The term goal has become too mundane and trite. The connotation being something abstruse, an unlikely pursuit, which is aspired to for a lifetime, instead of an easily attainable acquisition. In other words -You should not be using the term Goals-You should have Plans!
There is also another reason many people do not accomplish their goals. See if you can determine what it is from the following story.....
Amanda and Kelly both worked for the same Ad agency. They were in direct competition with one another and therefore each tended to avoid the other. They knew that they were both in the running for the Myers account, and both were well qualified to get it. Amanda had read that those with goals outpace 10-1 those without. So she sat down and made a list of 10 goals with the Myers account at the top of the list. Since she also had a goal of making her child a track star, she scurried home after work to run with him before working in her yard, (which was goal #8 have the nicest house/yard on the cul de sac). She grudgingly headed to the kitchen around 8 o clock to prepare a gourmet meal, as having gourmet meals 3x per week was on her list. By the time she sat down to study the Myers acct. she could barely keep her eyes open. Yet even in her depleted state, she could feel her husband's anger as he prepared to sleep in their king sized bed alone-again. For weeks Amanda beat her head against the wall running from pillar to post trying to accomplish what she'd set out for herself. But there never seemed to be enough hours in the day, and many times she felt she was running on empty. Instead of moving her closer to the Myers account, her boss had scolded her twice that week for being distracted and stepping on Mr Myers foot! Amanda watched helplessly as her chances of getting the account slid into oblivion......

Kelly on the other hand, carefully chose what was important to HER, and what was the resulting action of each choice. She made PLANS as to how she could secure the promotion and better the lives of her family. She sat down and wrote out 5 major plans with deadlines. She then thought and rethought about what each would mean to her. At the top of her list was the Myers account, so she immediately wrote out
- When she would study this account, and what she hoped to bring to it.
- Where she would find the time to pursue this plan
- What was the reward she hoped to achieve from this plan
- what that reward would mean to her and her family
- How would this plan better their lives in the long run, and not just for the moment.
- Land the Myers Account, and the subsequent promotion that came with it
- Lose 20 lbs in 3 months
- Help her son in his pursuit to be a swim star
- Afford to eat out 3x per week or have scrumptious gourmet meals prepared in
- Save 1000 per month and be able to put 6k down on a brand new car in the spring.
Why was Kelly achieving and Amanda burning out?
Why was Kelly relaxed and Amanda stressed to the breaking point?
Why did Kelly get even more than she asked (A free car) while Amanda did not even get what she originally sought?
We will go over the whys in our next post for those who did not catch the clues....Then we'll talk about how to make YOUR life work, and get what YOU want!
Thank you for tuning in, see you soon....... Sara
